Cremation Or Burial - The Benefits of Both

By Joseph Devine

If you are beginning the process of setting up your funeral arrangements for after you die, there are a number of things that you need to be aware of for your options. If you are trying to decide between a cremation and a burial, you should be aware of the differences between the two.

Both cremation and burial have their benefits depending on what you are looking to have after you die. Although this sounds morbid, this is a matter that you should decide on before you get to a point where you can't make decisions for yourself.

Cremation is defined as the burning of someone's body. Normally, the family will then take the ashes of the person, and they will scatter them wherever the person wanted to be placed. One of the benefits of having a cremation is that you wouldn't have to pay for the different extra expenses of having a burial plot and casket. This can be a money saver when you don't want your family to have to pay for different expenses once you are gone. If you want to have a simple type of funeral with just a small group of people, you can choose to have a cremation. Instead of having a service, you can just have a time where your family and friends get together to scatter your ashes.

Having an official burial is the other option for plans when you die. A burial is the process when they put your body into a casket and put you in the ground. This has been the traditional method of funeral types for a long time. Basically, your family would have a traditional funeral service, and then they would bury your casket in a designated spot with your assigned headstone. Although this is the more expensive process, there are many benefits to having a traditional burial. One of the biggest benefits is that you will have a place for your family to come back to. When your family is missing you, they would have your headstone as a place to come back to feel close to you again. There are many different options for headstones and caskets, and you can set up the types of casket and headstone that you want ahead of time. You can also choose separate plots so that you can be buried next to your spouse for your families grieving process.

If you have just recently received your life settlement by selling your life insurance policy, you can use parts of the money to set up which ever one you feel is right for your situation. Life settlements can provide many benefits if you are in need of financial stability right now.
